I believe everyone had the experience that had to do overtime to finish a task or report which you forgotten. In my last company, I was a manager of purchasing department and I always found 1~2 employees had not finished their tasks or reports when I asked them. So I spent so much time on keep track of those tasks, some of them named me as “CUI’MING’GUI”.
Frankly speaking, I also don’t want them to work overtime; I just hope they could finish their tasks in time, because I also had such a period before I was promoted as a manager. When I graduated from the college, I joined to LG IPO. At that time, there were so many tasks running in our IPO and I was responsible for several divisions’ tasks. As a newcomer for there, I was not seem to keep up with what I have to do, and sometimes I feel things slip through the cracks for me. At that time, my boss gave me an advice about time management. So I got and read the books which introduced the tools about time management. After a few month of practices, I found it is a very useful tool for business man to make good use of his time without wasting time.
I kept a to-do list of all things I have to do on my note and kept it updated. Every day, when I arrived at office, I checked the to-do list firstly and checked off or crossed off those that I have done. Also I checked the priorities of tasks to decide the main things I had to do in that day. Before I went back home, I updated the to-do list and put new things I would have to do in next days.
In those years, the personal computer was not so popular and laptop was even luxury to us, so I could not put them on the computer which is a common computer for all in our office.
The to-do list is very useful tool for me and it helps me to plan and keep tracking of deadlines of those tasks. It helps me make good use of my time without wasting; I also seem to be so organized and efficient to my boss and others. I became to get the ability which can control multi-tasks at same period.
Now, PC, laptop, PDA are so popular like TV, PIM(Personal Information manager) also is popular to us, which is a type of application software that functions as a personal organizer help us to scheduling and manager our time efficiently. Now, I put all of things I have to do on my computer and it remind me to do the thing with high priority firstly, as the same time, I also continued my old tool that write the to-do list on my note.Time management is not just for our business activities; is also for our life. Maybe, many of us think that time is always enough to us, but it would be gone so quickly if you waste it. I hope everyone could make good use of his time to enjoy his life, enjoy the time with his family.
